Sandcastle

Me and my best friend Yumi made a sandcastle at Sandbanks Provincial Park in Prince Edward County. It was lots of fun making it! We used sand, buckets, shells, feathers, shovels,a bottle cap for a pool,2 sticks, and rocks. It took a while because when we filled the buckets with sand and turned them over the sand would just crumble! It was really frustrating! It was funny when we were done the sandcastle because we caught a ladybug and put it in the pool which was the bottle cap. Here are the pictures my mom took of the sandcastle.

A card for my friend

This is my friend's card that I made for her birthday. I used the website bitstrips to make it. She loves Justin Bieber so I put him in the comic.

Interview with a Film Editor for TV

This is my interview with Derek L. and he is a film editor for television. I think this is a really cool job and so creative because he gets to look at all the tapes that were filmed and takes bits and pieces and adds music to turn it into a tv show episode. I think this job would be really hard to do and you need to take a lot of classes. But I think it's awesome that everyone gets to see your work on tv and you can get famous. My mom says Derek is a really good baker and likes movies and reading books and so do I. Derek said he's going to teach me how to make and edit movies but I really hope that I get to try some of his cupcakes.

Here are some examples of Derek's work: http://vimeo.com/user2958909

Story: Report Card

“Here’s everybody’s report cards,” said the teacher, Mrs. Bittermen.
Ella was scared to see what was on her report card because she knew she did not do very well on her worksheets and she did not pay attention in class. When Mrs. Bitterman passed out the report cards, Ella got hers and took a look and saw all D’s.

She felt like she wanted to scream but she could not because Mrs. Bittermen would be mad. Then before she knew it, the bell rang and everybody scattered. So she packed up all her things and ran down the hall to go outside and catch the school bus.
Ella sat on the bus next to a 6th grader and began to think of places to hide her report card because she did not want her parents to see her bad grades. Her parents would send her to summer school and she did not want that. Ella decided the bookshelf would be a good place to hide it. When Ella got home she went to the bookshelf and pretended to get a book to read. She hid the report card in the very back so no one could see it.

Ella’s mom yelled out, “It’s time for dinner,” and the whole family walked to the dinner table and sat down.
“Did you get your report card today?” asked Ella’s mom to her sister, Thea.
“Yes, I did mom.  Would you like to see it?” said Thea.
“Sure,” her mom smiled.
When Thea got up from the table to get her report card in her backpack, the dining room got quiet.

Thea came back and handed the report card to her mom. Her mom looked it over and then passed it to her dad.
“All A’s!?! We are so proud of you,” Thea’s mom said. Then she turned to Ella and asked, “If Thea has her report card shouldn’t you have one too?”
Ella was trying to think of what to say then quickly said, “Mrs. Bittermen is going to hand out our report card later this week… um…I’m done my dinner now so can I get washed up and go to bed? I’m tired.”
“Sure,” said her dad.
Ella got up from the dinner table, put her dishes in the sink and went upstairs to her bedroom.
As the days passed Ella was trying to think of what to do. She decided that she should just give up and show her report card to her parents on Friday. The week went by slowly but finally Friday came. Ella hopped on the bus and sat down and waited for the bus to start driving. As lots of kids were getting dropped off, Ella was thinking of what her parents would say about her report card. When it was her stop she was very nervous. Ella walked into her house and immediately her parents said to her “Did you get your report card today?” Ella held her breath and says “Yes. Would you like to see it?”
“Ok,” said her dad.
Ella grabbed the report card from the book shelf and they all sat down in the living room to take a look. When her parents opened the envelope they were surprised.
They looked at Ella and said “At least you tried and you did you work. That’s all we really care about.”
Ella was shocked. “I thought you wanted me to get good grades and I thought if I did not get good grades you would send me to summer school.”
“Why would you think that?” her dad asked.
“Well you guys like when Thea gets all A’s on her report card and I thought you would get mad that I got all bad grades.”
“I’m sorry it’s just that we get excited,” said her mom, “But we are very proud of both of you.”
“Oh,” said Ella.
“Why don’t I make some of my delicious chicken noodle soup and maybe I will make my donuts too” said her mom.
“Ok,” said Ella.
They sat down at the dinner table and had a nice dinner and went to bed.

Interview with an Art Director and Founder of tracksfor.com

I interviewed Chad Kabigting and he is my godfather. Chad is a freelance art director/associate creative director in advertising. I looked it up in the dictionary and Freelance means "working for different companies at different times rather than being permanently employed by one company". I think that means he gets to choose the work that he gets to do and doesn't have to work all the time.

Chad is also the founder of a cool website named tracksfor.com. It has to do with twitter and music and play lists like the ones on your iPod. Chad is really funny and nice. He lives in Toronto now but a few years ago, my mom and I went to visit him in Vancouver. We had fun there.

I drew my picture and chad's picture and my mom outlined it in black marker and I coloured it in. Here is my interview:

The trampoline

It's thanksgiving weekend here in Canada and it is very nice weather for October. I'm having fun eating turkey and jumping on the trampoline with my friends. Here is a picture my mom took on her phone.

DIY wrapping paper

Me and my mom cut up potatoes and cut out designs. Then we stamped them on a long piece of brown paper. The next time someone has a birthday I'm going to wrap it in this paper.

Interview with a Teacher

I interviewed my best friends dad, Royan Lee. He is a really fun teacher and I wish I could be in his class one day but I can't because I don't go to his school. Mr. Lee is very creative and likes to use iPads and iPods in his classroom. He is an Apple educator. Mr. Lee is a very good singer and guitar player and he teaches us songs like "Waving Flag", "Rolling in the deep" and "Heart of Gold" so that we can do concerts for our families and friends. If you are in his class you are really, really lucky!!

You can visit his blog at spicylearning.wordpress.com for some really good information about teaching and the internet.

Here is our interview:

Cross-country team

This is the first year I'm allowed to join school teams so I decided to join cross-country. We trained during our lunch recess and ran around the school. We just had our meet the other day. I had to run 1km and the big kids ran longer 3.5km. It was harder than I thought but I am really happy I did it. I came in 18th place and there were 8 schools in it and more than 70 girls in my grade running. Our school did awesome and we came in 1st place and brought back 4 pennants to the school! I'm going to do cross-country again next year. Here is a video my mom took of me finishing the race.

I turned 9!

I had my birthday party at a ropes course and I invited 16 friends. We had to climb a really high pole and then teeter on a plank. I didn't go all the way up but I want to try it again one day. My mom even climbed it and she is afraid of heights. It was really fun.

The instructors were really funny because they made everyone sing Happy Birthday to me while I was hanging in the air. I hope everyone had a good time.

Interview with a Children's Book Editor

Some kids know what they want to be when they grow up like some want to be teachers or doctors or vetrenarians. My mom said when she was little she wanted to be an archetect or an accountant and she even wrote that in her grade 4 year book. I think I want to be an artist or a teacher when I am older and my mom told me there are many different jobs that relate to art and not just the painter or drawer kind but I don't know what they all are. I definitely hope to do get a job that is creative.

My mom gave me the idea to interview some of her friends so that I could get an idea of what types of jobs there are in the world.I think that is a good idea because it will give me more information and let me learn about the different jobs that I didn't know about.

Here is the first interview and I plan to do many more.

I did my first interview with Samantha Swenson last year. She is a children's book editor and likes to do crafty things (my mom told me that) and is very good at felting (I don't know what that is) and painting cartoon monsters. Here are my questions and down below are her answers.

My Presentation

This week I have to build a structure out of recycled 3-D items and then I have to do a presentation about it. I decided to build the CN tower out of a biscotti container, an empty gift wrap paper roll, a take-out sushi tray, a cookie tray, half of a starbucks coffee cup and a toblerone chocolate bar box (I ate the chocolate). Then I painted it grey, added white stickers for the windows and put Lego people looking out the window. I hope I get an A.

Best pizza ever!

We went to Yumi's house for dinner last week and her mom Janet made fresh pizza. It was sooo delicious that I had to draw a picture of it.

At the top of the CN Tower

Me and my mom and my cousins went up the CN Tower and had lunch in the rotating restaurant. It was pretty cool because we got to see the city from up high and we stood on the glass floor. We went to the gift shop and I bought a key chain and a pen with a light reflection of the CN Tower.

Niagara Falls

On March Break me and my family and my godmother went to Niagara Falls. Here are a few photos I took of the falls. We stayed overnight at a hotel. The hotel room was soooo big, it even have a living room that I could do kartwheels in.
